Jack And Jill - live, 1978
you're the only one i love,
and you can't change that
- from their 1979 album 'Rock On'.
Rock On
More than one way to love a woman
The group scored their first big hit in 1978 with "Jack and Jill", which was taken from their debut, self-titled album. The song peaked at #8 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, and reached #11 in the UK Singles Chart,[1] earning a gold record in the process. Their successful follow-up hit, "You Can't Change That" was released in 1979, and lifted from their Rock On album. The single made it up to #9 on the Billboard chart that year. In September 1979 they participated in an anti-nuclear concert at Madison Square Garden. Their performance of "You Can't Change That" at this show appears on the No Nukes album. By 1980, the group had become known as Ray Parker Jr. and Raydio, and they released two more albums: Two Places at the Same Time (1980), and A Woman Needs Love (1981). These spawned another two Top 40 single hits ("Two Places at the Same Time" - #40 in 1980; and "That Old Song" - #21 in 1981). Their last, and biggest hit, "A Woman Needs Love" was also released in 1981, and went to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Raydio finally broke up in 1981. Parker started his solo career, scoring six Top 40 hits, including the hit singles "The Other Woman" (Pop #4), and "Ghostbusters". "Ghostbusters" was a title track of the box office hit movie Ghostbusters, starring Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. The single went to #1 for three weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. Knight helped form Ollie & Jerry, with Ollie Brown. Their two biggest hits came from soundtracks. "Breakin'... There's No Stopping Us" was the theme to the motion picture Breakin', and hit #9 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart. Their second single "Electric Boogaloo" (from the movie Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo), did not enter the Hot 100, but did climb to #43 on the Dance chart.

Scared and lonely Going out for the night Shaking all over And wishing I'd never come here He pulled up in a cloud of smoke So much was said But nobody spoke a word So I took a chance And he followed me home I knew he wouldn't beg So I gave in without fighting Been so long since I've been this way Since I loved this way So I asked him if he would stay for a while
* Lucky comes easy Lucky's not shy And if you're lucky You'll go for a ride For a ride
We talked a while And he told me his life We laughed and we cried and I knew that I could love him He got up to say good by I said where you going, He said that he must leave
17/05/2012 -- I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of the great Diva; Donna Summer. A truly inspirational legend who has dazzled us for many, many years with her beautiful and flawless Angel voice. A voice that will resound within our (the fans) hearts for the rest of eternity. I know that for us, her songs have bought us happiness, joy and strength and we cannot thank her enough. They have gotten us through some very hard times. But, she is singing with the Angel's in Heaven now. May she forever rest in Peace, The Queen of Disco; Donna Summer. xx
I CAN'T GIVE YOU ANYTHING (BUT MY LOVE), 1975
You Make Me Feel Brand New
Because I Love You, Girl
The Stylistics are a soul music vocal group, and were one of the best-known Philadelphia soul groups of the 1970s. They formed in 1968, and were composed of lead Russell Thompkins, Jr., Herbie Murrell, Airrion Love, James Smith, and James Dunn. All of their US hits were ballads, graced by the soaring falsetto of Russell Thompkins, Jr. and the lush productions of Thom Bell, which helped make the Stylistics one of the most successful soul groups of the first half of the 1970s."[1] During the early 1970s, the band had twelve consecutive U.S. R&B top ten hits, including "Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)", "You Are Everything", "Betcha by Golly, Wow", "I'm Stone in Love with You", "Break Up to Make Up".
Let It Whip - The Dazz Band (1982)
"Let It Whip" was a 1982 single by The Dazz Band and their biggest hit, peaking at number one on the R&B chart for five non-consecutive weeks. The single also reached number two on the Dance chart and number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 1983. Co-written by producer Reggie Andrews, "Let It Whip" features a percolating drum machine rhythm underneath live drums, and a Minimoog bassline. The Dazz Band were a former American funk music band that was most popular in the early 1980s. The name of the band is a portmanteau of the description 'danceable jazz'. The Dazz Band, formed in 1976, grew out of the Cleveland, Ohio jazz fusion band Bell Telefunk, composed of lead guitarist/songwriter Mike Calhoun, percussionist Kenny Pettus, drummer Isaac 'Ike' Wiley, Jr., and his brother bassist Michael Wiley, and the band Mother Braintree. The new combined group became known as The Kinsman Dazz, named after both the street and the lounge where they worked as the house band, Sonny Jones' Kinsman Grill Lounge. The group adopted its name before the song "Dazz" became an R&B hit for Atlanta band Brick in 1976. The Kinsman Dazz were signed to 20th Century Records by Joe Lewis in 1978. The group went to Los Angeles to record for producer Marvin Gaye. Owing to illness, Gaye had to back out of the duties. Harris requested and got Philip Bailey, the vocalist of Earth, Wind & Fire, to produce the group's first album, "Kinsman Dazz". Bailey would co-produce their second album, "Dazz", and had a major input into the group's vocal arrangements. The Kinsman Dazz became The Dazz Band in 1980. Separately, the 20th Century Records label was closed, and The Dazz Band were signed to Motown Records. The group expanded from the original quintet — Harris, Calhoun, Pettus, and the Wiley brothers — with newcomers Kevin Kendrick, Steve Cox, Eric Fearman, Pierre DeMudd, Sonny 'Skip' Martin, Jerry Bell and Terry Stanton. This channel is dedicated to all the great 'old school' R&B music I grew up with, the stuff that originally made me tap my feet and want to be a DJ. Funk, soul, disco, R&B, dance, hip-hop, pop . . . 60s, 70s, 80s . . . whatever you call it, it's all 'Old School' and it's all here!

COMMODORES - STILL
* still
lady, morning's just a moment
away
and i'm without you once again
you laughed at me
you said you
didn't needed me
i wonder if you need me now
* so many
dreams that flew away
so many words we didn't say
two people lost in a
storm
where did we go?
where'd we go?
we lost what we both had
found
you know we let each other down
but then most of all
i do love
you
still!
* chorus
we played the games that people
play
we made our mistakes along the way
somehow i know deep in my
heart
you needed me
'cause i needed you so desperatly!
we were too
blind to see
but then most of all
i do love you
still!
Commodores - Easy
know it sounds funny but i just can't stand the pain
girl, i'm leaving you
tomorrow
seems to me girl you know i've done all i can
you see i begged,
stole and i borrowed ... yeah ooh
ooh, that's why i'm easy
i'm easy
like sunday morning
that's why i'm easy
i'm easy like sunday
morning
why in the world would anybody put chains on me?
i've
paid my dues to make it
everybody wants me to be what they want me to
be
and i'm not happy when i try to fake it yeah
i wanna be high so
high
i wanna be free to know the things i do are right
i wanna be free
just me oh baby uh
* three times a lady
thanks for the times that you've
given me
the memories are all in my mind
and now that we've come to the
end of our rainbow
there's something i must say out loud
you're once,
twice, three times a lady
and i love you...
yes, you're once, twice, three
times a lady
and i love you... i love you...
when we are together the
moments i cherish
with every beat of my heart
to touch you, to hold
you
to feel you, to need you
there's nothing to keep us
apart
you're once, twice, three times a lady
and i love you... i love
you...
